Sleep
at Brooklyn Paramount Brooklyn
Formed in San Jose in 1990 out of the band Asbestosdeath, with Al Cisneros on bass and vocals and Matt Pike on guitar. Earache released Sleep's Holy Mountain in 1992. London Records refused to issue Dopesmoker, a single song running past an hour; Third Man finally put it out in 2022, four years after The Sciences. Pike went on to High on Fire; Dale Crover now drums.
Why Brooklyn Paramount: One of the city's great restoration stories, a Wonder-era palace hidden in plain sight for 60 years.
